The movie begins with police interrogating a senior citizen about an alleged psycho killer responsible for a series of murders in the city. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Harry Josh) asks Nagesh (Nagesh Mayya), a police inspector, to investigate the murder of an unidentified girl. During the interrogation, the senior citizen tells the police that Mrudula (Komica Achal), a model who cannot speak, was exploited by parasites and miscreants. At this juncture, the director introduces a watchman (Shyam) and how he harassed Mrudula and how she kills him and disposes of his mortal remains in plastic bags. As if it is not enough, she comes to know how Santosh (Santosh Medappa) and Karan (Vikas), the son of Superintendent of Police, are responsible for the death of Mrudula. She eliminates Santosh and also her boss who misbehaves with her. What happens to Mrudula and Karan and the police investigation is what the movie Hathya is all about.
Director Varun Gangadhar has succeeded in ensuring the screenplay is crisp. He has ensured the audience to remain on the edge of their seats during the post-intermission. The narration of the movie gains momentum after the pre-intermission.
Komica Achal, as a hapless mute girl vulnerable to exploitation by wayward boys, has acted well. She walks away with all honours for her performance, especially in the climax. Shyam, as a lecherous watchman, has acted well. If he focuses on acting, he may become a suitable actor for playing a villain. Vikash Gowda, as a bad and wayward boy, has acted well. Nagesh Maiya, a well-known character artiste, has a rare opportunity of sharing the screen from beginning to end. The director claims that the movie is based on a true story.
It is worth watching for those who love to watch suspense movies
